CECILIA ANN is a Spanish band currently formed by Arturo (guitar, vocals), Estrella (guitar, vocals), Francis (keyboards), Pablo (bass) and Sergio (drums). The band started in 1993, and released their first single four years later. It was produced by Alejandro Díez, leader of LOS FLECHAZOS and now in COOPER.
In 1998 the band released their first album: “Un segundo”. This time the production tasks were executed by THE POSIES’ Ken Stringfellow. The album contained excellent guitar pop songs, mixing the distortion of the guitars with soft boy-girl harmonies; it also had intelligent lyrics in Spanish, in a time when most of their colleagues opted for English.
After some line-up changes, dozens of gigs all over Spain -alone or with bands such as POSIES, NADA SURF or BMX BANDITS- and appearances at Festivals as Benicassim or BAM, CECILIA ANN release their second album in 2000. It’s called “Suenacuento” and features the same virtues that their debut had, plus some lushy string and horn arrangements, and a more critic approach concerning lyrics.
“De todo un poco” is one of the best tracks in “Suenacuento”; a wonderful song in which all its components are brilliant: its piano intro, its horn section in the chorus, the acid but tender lyrics, the catchiness of the melody... In a perfect world this would be a smash hit.
There are two extra tracks in this CD-Single, not included in the album: some exultant trumpets open “Lo que me pasa a mí”, a cover version of sixties classic “Funny how love can be”, popularized by many bands (CECILIA ANN had in mind HARPERS’ BIZARRE’s rendition when dealing with their own one). The Spanish lyrics are taken from the version sung by Silvana Velasco (Spanish sixties singer).
The other extra track is “No se lo digas a nadie”, which is a new display of the excellent moment this Spanish band is going through, to the point of leaving such a good song as an album outtake. The most distinctive element in this song is a delicate, vals-like section in the middle of the song, in contrast with the rest of the track, much more energetic.
